Tianjin subway, officially known as “天津地铁” (Tiānjīn Dìtiě), operates in Tianjin City, China. This urban transport system has a total of 9 lines, 153 Stations in operation, and a total length of approximately 265 kilometres (164 miles).

Train frequency:

  • Peak hours: Trains pass every 5 minutes approximately.

What are peak and non-peak hours??

  • Peak hours: These are the periods of greatest passenger demand, they generally coincide with the start and end times of the working day. In Tianjin, this is usually from 7:00 a 9:00 in the morning and 17:00 a 19:00 in the afternoon.

History of Tianjin Subway

The first line of the metro began its construction in 1970 and the 10 of August of 1980, with the Xinhualu to Xi'nanjiao section. This line, the line 1, it later spread from Xi'nanjiao to Xizhan on 28 December 1984. Originally, The system was small and limited, but very efficient in all aspects.

Engineers and construction companies

The design and construction of the Tianjin subway involved several prominent companies and a team of engineers specializing in transportation infrastructure. Among the main contractors are the Tianjin Metro General Corporation and the Tianjin Binhai Mass Transit Development Company. In 2017, Both companies merged to form the Tianjin Rail Transit Group Corporation, unifying the management and operation of the system.

Present

The last two Tianjin subway stations to open are Hongnihedong Stations (line 1), that opened the 31 July 2023, and Dongjiangdao Station (line 11), that opened the 28 December 2023.

Future expansions

Several metro expansions are planned:

Line 4 (Northern Phase): The northern phase of the Line 4 is under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. This line will connect several important districts such as Beichen, Hongqiao, Hebei, Nankai, Heping, Hexi, Hedong and Dongli. All stations and major sections have been completed and equipment installation and decoration work is underway.

Line 7: This line will cover from Saida Baji Lu in Xiqing district to Xifeng Dao in Hebei district. Understand 21 underground stations and will tour important areas of the city center. The line is expected to 7 enter test operation towards the end of 2024, possibly during the National Day holiday in October.

Line 8 (Phase 1): The first phase of the Line 8 it will run from Lushui Dao in Nankai District to Green Park in Jinnan District, including 17 stations. This phase is expected to be completed by 2025, and will be integrated with the extension of the Line 6 for continuous operation.

Line Z4: Also known as Binhai Line 2, this line runs from Hangu Hancai Road to Central New City, covering 42.4 km with 24 stations. The entire line is expected to be operational by August 2024.

History of Tianjin Subway Map
